How are you guys doing?? So I am not going to go on about how hot Bangalore is! All I can say is that these popsicles are the best thing to have in this heat!!! I haven’t added any sweetening or colouring agent to them. All natural and clean. They are the perfect quick escape from the heat. It is basically just a watermelon juice that was promoted to a fancy pants popsicle. The addition of rose water make them sweeter and fresher. You could add any kind of fruit but I love watermelon and kiwi together. Also if you want your could juice the kiwi too, but I like the way the kiwi pops out through the watermelon so thats why I just sliced it and added it into the juice.
There is so much you can do if you have a good popsicle mould. Yes ice creams could also be poured into these mould to make soft, creamy, cold ice creams. But hey we are just getting started with summer right? I also have a recipe for an easy Mango and Almond Chip Ice Cream and a Melon Granita. So this is another one you must try. They are s easy to make and super “Kid” friends. I give my son one a day :0)
You could add sugar or honey if you like, but if the watermelon is sweet, then why bother! Also you could mix it up a bit by adding a little lemon juice. ok so on to the recipe –
- Watermelon – 4 cups ( deseeded and cubed)
- Rose water or rose essence – 1/2 tsp
- Kiwi – 1 (sliced)
- In the bowl of your blender add the watermelon and rose water
- Blend to make a smoothie juice
- Pour into your popsicle moulds
- Add the sliced kiwi pieces
- Pop into the freezer and let it set for 15 min
- Then take them out and insert the popsicle sticks
- Freeze till nice and firm.
- To un-mould dip the mould in hot water for 5 secs and pull them out gently from the mould

How was the weekend? We had an awesome time. It started with a birthday party on Friday evening. I absolutely love birthday parties and I love how children find the cutest and sweetest games to play all by themselves. The next day was fun too. I love places that serve awesome starters than you never get to the main course. By Sunday, all we wanted to do was watch a nice movie and have some cold soothing drinks. So that is when I made this drink. Its super simple and I dint want it to be all too sweet so I added a little twist. The fun part is that the spicy hot taste sinks in only at the end. Makes you wanna drink some thing sweet so you take the next sip. Its sweet and fresh and then the chilli hits you again! ha ha. Its a circle (but not vicious). But by the time you have had a couple of glasses you feel refreshed and happy 🙂
I do not buy the seedless kind of watermelon simply cause that would mean they are not organic and have been altered. We try not having any food that has been genetically alerted and try sticking to organic stuff. So I buy the normal kind and I cut it into 4 halves. Then I make long incisions along the line of the seeds. I may miss a few but I still think its better than the seedless kind.
- Watermelon – 1kg ( de seeded and cut to cubes)
- Green Chillies – 3
- Honey – 2 tbsp
- Ice Cubes – 3 cups
- Water – 2 cups
- Mint leaves – 1 cups (packed)
- Lime – 4
- In the bowl of your blender add the watermelon, honey, green chillies, water and half the ice cubes
- Then cut the limes into half and squeeze the juice into the blender bowl. I use my hand as a strainer just to make sure there are no seeds in the bowl
- Blitz till all the watermelon and green chilli is juiced well . Pour into your serving jug
- Pick a few of the mint leaves and thrown them into the serving jug. Using a muddler just press the mint leaves to release their minty flavour into the drink
- Throw in a few ice cubes into your serving glass and pour the watermelon juice
- Garnish with fresh mint leaves
Its summer time and that means its mango time! I am going to try making as many mango based yummies as I can. My little baby boy Adithya just turned 7 months and now he’s constantly on his fours, crawling around the house, trying to climb up and always falling down while sitting up straight. So I spend most of my time on the floor along with him. So posting recipes are little slower these days. And I usually cook only when he is asleep or when my husband is on baby duty. That happens only on weekends as he’s constantly working!
My little Adi just started solid food and we started with Banana. Now he has Raggi ( finger millet), carrots, rice, lentils and orange juice. I think I will introduce him to Mango too. Any way , this means I am constantly either feeding him or cleaning him. So sitting down and typing in these recipes don happen often.
Alright! Let’s get to the recipe huh….. 🙂
1) Mango puree – One cup ( I just cut two big mangoes and ran in the blender to make one cup of mango pulp)
2) Powdered Sugar – Half cup ( I used a little more cause the mango wasn’t as sweet as I would have wanted)
3) Milk Powder – 1 cup and 2 tsp
4) Salt – A pinch
5) Fresh Cream – 200 ml
6) Toasted Almonds – A hand full, finely sliced
In a mixer, add the mango pure, cream and sugar and blend till they combine well.
Then add the milk powder and salt and blend well. Make sure to scrape the sides of the bowl as the milk powder may stick to the side of the bowl. Once the mixture is ready pour into the required ice cream bowl/ container.
Make sure you churn the mixture every one hour 3- 4 times. And at the final churn add the almonds to the mixture uniformly around the container and let it sit in the freezer overnight .
The next morning you have fresh mango ice cream with no added additives or color or preservative. Enjoy!!
